Tagging Guidelines

With Notes/Instructions and 5 Examples

If the Table Of Contents has the word "Page" or other marker to identify the list of page numbers, call it an <fw type="tochead">; [see Example One]. If it does not appear on its own line, don't tag it; just include it as part of the CDATA for the page number next to which it appears [see Example Two.]
But what if "Page" appears at the top of more than one page? This is no different than having one (more than one is allowed within any given <list>. For an example, see Example Four.
Do not type in the dots or any other characters (such as dashes) that separate the chapter title from the page number. Use a fill keyword to indicate the presence of such fillers, but do not use a value with it, since we are not actually interested in that information. [see Example Two or Example Four.]
Right alignment is noted on the rend= attribute: <ref rend="align(right)"> [see any of Examples One, Two, or Three].
Contents with internal sub-divisions/sub-headings: see Example Three.
What about Contents that have no page numbers? How do you point to the right place when there is nothing around which you can put <ref>? The answer is <ptr>; see Example Five. Note that no type= attribute is needed here.
