Using coordinates for zones

The Image Markup Tool and TILE are utilities for making generation of the coordinates easy.

Since we are interested in describing the layout of manuscript surfaces, the TEI allows us to specify where each zone occurs on the page. We use coordinates to specify exact locations of zones. The typical unit for these coordinates is pixels.

You will define the coordinates of the surface using the surface element. You should use the the following coordinate attributes for describing the size of the page. These are:

  • ulx - the upper left hand x coordinate
  • uly - the upper left hand y coordinate
  • lrx - the lower left hand x coordinate
  • lry - the lower left hand y coordinate

The zone element will use the same coordinates to define where the upper left x and y coordinates and lower right x and y coordinates occur.
